Cheryl Graham and Gretchen Finch

Cheryl and Gretchen are two of the original chicks and they also are the organizers of the show. They are great friends who share a LOVE of buttons!!

Cheryl will have her 'Letter' painted canvases, unique little address books, one of a kind frames, vintage button collages and journals.

Gretchen will have vintage button collages, sterling silver button bookmarks, and button bracelets. This will be her 9th year to create a sculpted folk art creation. These 'Merry Mates', a sweet Penguin and his Cardinal friend capture the spirit of the holiday.

Cheryl and Gretchen have both created unique 'Treasure Boxes', their new item this year. Each small, metal, embellished box is one of a kind and comes with a surprise inside. A perfect gift for someone you treasure!

This is Mindi's third year in Crafty Chicks, she is a production designer at Hallmark who loves to design handcrafted beads and make them into wearable artwork creations. Her small business "Wonderfully Made," is taken from the bible verse—I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). Mindi makes every design perfect for any girl—each piece has a little whimsy...they are colorful, funky, unique, and totally you...Wonderfully Made!

Elise's current sewing manias are MySnazzyBags, which are purses, totes and handbags, in a wide range of fabrics, from elegant to funky. Sizes vary from wristlets to iPad Hobos. Tara has been working on the shrines since her dad's death about 7 years ago. It started with a couple of fabric boxes in remembrance of him and grew from there. Julie O'Dell

Business professional by day and artist by night, Julie is the creative force behind Plum Road Studios. “Making things” is her passion; color and pattern provide inspiration; sewing is her favorite creative expression. Time spent in the studio, mainly at the sewing machine, is a connecting thread to Julie’s past. Her grandmother and mother sewed and quilted; Julie was taught how to use a needle and thread at an early age. Her family also owned and operated a small ceramics studio where Julie learned to paint and explore other mediums. While she has dabbled in all sorts of projects, quilting remains a constant and focus of her creative energies.

Karen is so happy to be back with her Crafty Chicks! This year, she is offering beautiful jewelry handmade with a wide variety of materials, each piece with it's own personality. Kristie Jeffers started sewing dolls and toys for her two small boys. She has always been a crafter and is constantly creating whether it's a knitted scarf, a painted Christmas gnome, or a hand sewn doll. She uses natural fibers whenever possible, wool felt being her favorite. Kristie can't wait to share her creations with you and your children!

Sharman Lang

Necessity is the mother of invention. Standing on the bus stop in the dead of winter, you look for any kind of cover or warmth you can find. One way to keep warm is to cover your head and neck with a scarf or hat. Sharman was not happy with the apparel being offered in the high or low end fashion departments, so she decided to make her own. Keep That Head and Neck Warm !

Diane and Madeline Tompkins

"Tag Team Tompkins" spent time this summer developing some of their first 2-color work to be printed by Skylab Letterpress. They have tried to keep the simplicity of their early black on white work, but have added some color accents. A few of the original designs appeared in Better Homes and Gardens Halloween special interest magazine recently. Debbie Dusenberry, of Curious Sofa, produced this 10 page spread in her amazingly creative fashion. They were honored to be included in her "Mad Tea Party" feature.

Shawna Stobaugh

Shawna Stobaugh is a creative artist whose illustration subjects are greatly inspired by her own life and things that surround her. Among all the things she illustrates, her favorite things are the ones that she sees daily. The style of her art is playful and almost child-like. Tabitha Todd

Tabitha and her husband Brandon get creative together to make screenprinted pillows and onesies. Each design is original and screen printed by hand with lots of time and love. Once designs are crafted, much time is spent mixing emulsion and ink colors, cutting fabrics, drying screens, burning impressions, pulling the ink, and sewing the final products! Tabitha also began sewing clutches recently, and she is always looking for new ways to expand her creativity! This is the couple's first year as a Crafty Chick, and they look forward to finding homes and bodies for their unique designs.

Sharon Milleret and June Brock

You never know what these two chicks will be bringing for the show. They have the most wonderful antiques and pre-owned treasures. To round it all off, June adds to the mix charming ornaments that were created using small antique butter molds. Come by and see what they have new this year!

Shelby Olexa

Shelby's love of handmade clothing is clear in her crocheting. Two years ago she began making hats for family and friends and then began selling her creations in a local vintage shop. This is her first year at Crafty Chicks. She'll be featuring unique hats, fingerless gloves and scarves. Be sure to stop by to see her owl and sock monkey hats!

Linda Maloney

Linda has fallen in love with working in resin!! From the yummy colors to the tactile feel she has enjoyed every project. The colors are bright and cheery and will add pizazz to your winter wardrobe. Wear one necklace at at time or wear in multiples!

Alicia Thomas and John Brogden started out 2 years ago working together to create birdhouses and feeders from gourds. Bootheel Gourds are grown by their father on the family farm in southeast Missouri.This is their first year at Crafty Chicks, and they will be offering much more than birdhouses and feeders. All made out of gourds, of course!

Cherish Pageau

Cherish has been working in ceramics for 8 years. Her current work focuses on simple, functional and decorative forms created by using both wheel-thrown and hand-building techniques with interesting, textural, surface design motifs inspired by nature. As always, she will be selling an assortment of wares; mugs, bowls, vases, etc. Each piece is unique, 100% hand-made, and perfect for eating, drinking, gifting or adding that unique decorative flair you've been looking for to your own home or office.

Rachel Porter

Rachel owns 'love is rising', an outpouring of love that originally sprung from their journey to adopt their third child. Rachel has wanted her own handmade shop since college, and...years later finally got up the guts to try it and LOVES it. She love the process of creating (start to finish), meeting new friends and funding their adoption in a fun and new way. This is Rachel's first year as a 'Chick'!

Lynda Dureka

Lynda was was sewing and making fabric items at the age of 8! She has made wedding dresses, men’s suits, curtains, king size quilts, quilted dog beds; you name it and this girl believes she can make it. Her menu for the November’s show will be quilted items: Table runners, make-up or personal bags, eyeglass cases, a variety of purses in styles that she has created. Lynda’s objective is to use vintage fabrics and trims. Items that remind her of her grandmother. Should you not find something you cannot live without be sure and let her know. She’s always willing to take orders and create that special something for you.

Christy Cater is a Ceramics/Mixed Media artist who creates artwork full of whimsy, humor and funk. From wearable pieces, functional works, or reliefs that hang on the wall, you'll be sure to find something that tugs on your heartstrings! Anne Medley

Anne initially started making beaded collars for her own three dogs. The demand quickly increased to family, friends. acquaintances and nearly everyone who saw them. Requests began flowing in. especially from people at the dog park resulting in a large group of very well dressed dogs. An animal lover, Anne decided to give 100% of all proceeds to Operation Wildlife (OWL), a group of amazing people who are dedicated to the rehabilitation of injured and orphaned animals. Remember dogs need Christmas gifts, too!

Julie Day

Julie Day loves to create with a vintage flair. Her felt flowers can adorn a headband, jacket label or top off your shoes. Miniature
decoupaged journals crafted from old books and papers help express your personal style
(and keep you organized!). Other specialties include cloth tissue holders from retro
fabrics, picture frames from wrapping paper of long ago Christmases, and other vintage
surprises. Julie is so excited to be a crafty chick!

Laura Hudson is a graphic designer by trade and a lover of all things paper! Laura specializes in handmade journals and notebooks, as well as paper products including cards, gift tags, and calendars to name a few! Her newest creation has been the addition of handmade fabric flowers to her journals. Laura is so excited to be a part of Crafty Chicks for the first time this year!

Ruth has always had a passion for mixed media and repurposing everyday objects into unique one of a kind art pieces. Michelle Strong

This is Michelle’s second year at Crafty Chicks displaying her handmade jewelry designs. Utilizing the unique beauty of real butterfly wings, she mounts the wings in glass to showcase the stunning colors only nature can provide. Furthering her love of all things vintage, she will once again have her sparrow lockets available, but has also added metal photo necklaces. Using a method that transfers directly to the metal, she uses images old and new to create works with vintage charm. Custom designs available.

Vicki McClain and Judy Chestnut

Vicki's interest in art, nature, and her love for animals have drawn her to explore many art forms and media such as Scrimshaw, Beading, Pine Needle baskets and her new obsession Pyrography, also known as woodburning. She has done several collaborative pieces with Judy Chesnut to embellish her turned wood pieces and in the process became interested in Pyrography. Judy acquired an interest in wood at an early age while helping her dad build their house. Her first exposure to a lathe, was while I was attending classes at the Kansas City Art Institute and building furniture. Judy collects and use many exotic woods from a variety of countries. The more unusual the wood, the more attracted she isto it. It’s a bit of an obsession as is the woodturning. Judy and Vicki's love of wood and nature is expressed in all their work.

Pam Sledd

Pam creates her own jewelry and represents 3 other jewelry artists. Their pieces include lucite, old store stock from the '60's and '70's, found items, natural stones such as ocean jasper, turquoise, amber coral and agate. Current color trends are evident in each piece. Go forth and accessorize!!!

Jenny Whitehead is a children's book author and illustrator during the day and a Washer Woman at night. She starts every pendant with a stainless steel washer and then designs each piece using flea market trinkets, vintage books, matchbooks, stamps, tokens, buttons, and anything round, rusty and interesting she finds on the street while walking her dog. Each pendant comes with a free rubber necklace--it lies just at the right place to start a conversation!

Tag Team Tompkins has had a busy year, selling their work at local and regional shops and shows and now through Etsy. They consider their letterpress art prints a nice success, growing the offering from 13, created in 2009, to a total of 24 prints that will be offered at the Crafty Chicks 2010 show. Diane and Madeline continue to enjoy creating their"DireWarning"originals and their framed hand lettered and hand-cut silhouette art. They are proud to be featured at Main Street Goods and Goodies, located in Liberty, Missouri, owned and operated by Gail Dugdale, Diane's sister, another Crafty Chick.

Cindy Ross

It's funny the first thing people say when they see the beads Cindy works with is, "Oh man, how can you see?" Cindy has been showing at Crafty Chicks since the beginning, 11 years ago. Her designs have evolved. Right now, she is into the old school tattoo look. It is a lot of fun to see her ideas come to life. When you love what you do it shows! Cindy Buehler of Cinderelish is excited to be a part of Crafty Chicks for the first time this year. Cindy has been making pottery for about ten years. Her functional pottery is created from porcelain and embellished with sgraffito carving through black slip. The black and white carving is then highlighted by bright, modern glaze colors. Offerings include tiles, trays, cups, mugs and bowls. Cindy works from her home studio and Liberty, MO. She teaches classes at Red Star Studios. Her work is also available at STUFF in Brookside. Hot Chocolate would taste so much better in these beautiful cups!

Flora is a full time designer/illustrator for Hallmark for the past 9 years. Her works are simple, sweet, and full of imagination. She is always trying to come up with new ways to incorporate her illustrations and her love of colors into the stuff she creates. Fun, Funky & Chunky Jewelry

Linda tries to bring a bit of nostalgia and whimsy into her designs. She likes to recycle by using as many re-found objects, beads and components in her jewelry as possible. Linda loves the tactile feel of the Mah Jong tiles and wonders how many games have been played with them, oh, wonders what stories they could tell! She is now using old Gumball machine charms, Monopoly and other game pieces in her game pieces long with Bakelite poker chips to make fun necklaces! The whimsical trees are all made in the manner of the glittery trees in the 1950's. These beautiful trees could find a place in your home. You will want to come early to see Linda, a new chick this year, and her wonderful designs.

Angela Muir

Angela is a formally trained fashion designer who enjoys crafting with recycled materials. "I often find that I enjoy the challenge of turning something that has already been used for a certain purpose into something completely different, prolonging the life of the material and wasting less in the long run." As an example, she creates from recycled coffee bean sacks that she gets from the Roastarie Coffee Company right here in Kansas City. Not only are these products green, they are local as well!

Hound's Tooth by Cecilia and Emily is an offering of all natural homemade dog treats and snacks. All are healthy, organic and wheat free. Apple , carrot, pumpkin, flaxseed, and peanut butter are just a few of the ingredients used. Knowing some dogs have sensitive stomachs there will also be several dairy free and meat free products available. All the treats have been pre-approved by their own dogs Rosco and Emmitt and several of their four legged friends. There will be packaged treats as well as an assortment of a la carte goodies to give as gifts to satisfy your dog's sweet tooth. Who let the dogs out? (couldn't resist)

Ruth has been a Crafty Chick for several years and her table is always a favorite. Julie works as a graphic designer/ product designer/ art director by day and by late night and weekends she unleashes her creative spirit. Lorraine designs decoupage and jewelry, which are combined in her latest collection of bottle cap necklaces. She utilizes metal, paper, semi-precious stones and one-of-a-kind vintage buttons. This collection pairs a Parisian sensibility with up-cycled chic. She will also be selling her popular friendship tea, hot cocoa, holiday spiced wine and cider mixes. "Cute, Sweet & Snug" is the theme Jennifer has chosen for her crocheted goodies this year. In hues of red, brown, pink and white, you'll find cute baby elephants, sweet cupcake pincushions and snug scarves among other coordinating items at her table. Jennifer hopes you'll stop by for a unique handmade gift and the sweet feel of the season!

Shawna Stobaugh

Most of Shawna's art is very juvenile and whimsical. This whimsical lampwork bead jewelry is crafted by Gina Simmons, a new artist to Crafty Chicks. You may have seen some of her work at Art Unleashed, a great fund raising event for our furry friends. They started hosting Ring Parties using modern and vintage buttons made into rings or pendants... right on the spot. Talk about instant gratification! You can also used your own special buttons... like one from Grandma's coat, Dad's Navy uniform, or from your favorite Aunt's jar of buttons...they work up into a beautiful memory that you can wear!!!

Tammy started making these birdcages and other wire pieces when she realized she loved the look of an abandoned circus or carnival she saw in England while on a family vacation. This has been a very busy year for her, taking her Homemade Circus on the road traveling to shows across the United States. We're glad she's making us part of her itinerary.

You may recognize this lovely jewelry made by Patty Ross, a Crafty Chick for several years. She uses high quality metal materials and semi-precious stones in most of her designs. Some designs may have vintage components that she has repurposed. Patty got married this year.......her name may have changed but the jewelry is still beautifully hand-crafted. March came in like a lion in Kansas City!

As the tulips and daffodils wake up so do the Crafty Chicks! The creative spirit is restless and, as we all know, you just have to let it out!

We have had lots buzz from the chicks as many are in other shows. (Of course, Crafty Chicks has to be their favorite.....right?) Tammy Smith has been working hard in her 'Big Top' making her Homemade Circus creations. She has upcoming shows next month in Roundtop, Texas, April 1-5, and a local show, Art on the Hill in Kearney, Mo. April 25. Art on the Hill is a great show and is in such a beautiful outside location. Go to Tammy's link on our blog to get more info. In fact, several of our chicks have Etsy shops. Let's hear it for Spring!

We now know when Crafty Chicks will be this year. It is on Saturday, November 28 at Heritage Hall in Liberty. This is our 10th anniversary....is that diamonds or silver...actually, it is tin and aluminum?! Ha! No gifts, please. Just come and share a little shopping joy!

Some 'Chicks' have been busy and are in a show coming up at Curious Sofa in Prairie Village, Ks. on February 6 and 7. "Love Hurts", a Valentine Art Show, will feature Diane and Madeline Tompkins, Tammy Smith and a former 'Chick', Michelle Spaw. Their work is always fabulous, be sure to check it out.

What an incredible day we had! Record-breaking crowds (and fog)! We so appreciate everyone who came to shop and mingle.

Our friends at Heritage Hall are generous hosts to us every year and we couldn't do this without them.

Gretchen Finch and Cheryl Graham

Cheryl and Gretchen are two of the original Crafty Chicks and they are the coordinators of the annual event. They are great friends who share a LOVE of vintage buttons!

Cheryl will have her monogram painted canvases, unique collages in cigar boxes, little address books, picture frames and decoupage bottles. New this year are lovely birds painted and collaged on small canvases. Each piece is truly one of a kind and express her distinctive point of view.

Gretchen will have charming button collages, ribbon bookmarks, vintage button bracelets and necklaces. She has a love of folk art and has been creating unique paper clay sculptures for the last several years. A whimsical deer with a small red bird perched on the wire antlers will be featured this year.

Em Byerly is a second year Crafty Chick. With her love of vibrant colors and patterns, Em is putting her sewing skills to work. She will be selling "Rag Bags", each one a unique blend of fabrics and stitch work. They are all slightly different and one of a kind. She will have a few more surprises to entice you so come by and meet Em.

This is Patty's third year with the Chicks. Many will remember her with her buddy, Christina who is now married and living in Minneapolis. Patty's love of making jewelry has brought her back solo and you will love her wonderful use of color, in the beads, semi-precious gems and swavroski crystals. Come shop her new styles this year and remember she also takes custom orders for individuals, brides and their wedding party. Speaking of brides, Patty will be one early next year!

Who doesn't love the smell of freshly baked cinnamon rolls in the morning? Come early and that's what you'll find baking in the kitchen at Heritage Hall. They do go fast, so be warned.

Annie Malik has brought her eye for trends to Crafty Chicks for the past three years creating plush toys, screen printed tea towels and aprons. This year, with her partner-in-crime, Ana Reinert, Annie is expanding her vision to tote bags, the perfect reusable gift!

Tammy Smith and Homemade Circus

Tammy has worked in 3D for many years and has illustrated for kids' books and magazines. She has recently become fascinated with wire sculpture, especially birds in cages that resemble broken down carnival rides. This will be Tammy's first year with Crafty Chicks.

Karen Reeves

"I'm like my mama. I need to have busy hands." Lucky for us, Karen became a chick several years ago. You can see Karen's love of crafting in many forms. For Crafty Chicks this year, she will have jewelry, itty bitty felted bags (perfect for an IPOD or cell phone), and photography.

John Graham at the 2007 Show

John joined the 'chicks' in 2005. You will love his clever lamps made from found objects such as trumpets, baseballs, and even a movie projector! Clocks hand-crafted from metal, film canisters, or computer circuit boards are each a unique piece. His aesthetic and 'green' sensibility are apparent in all his work.

Anna Eschrich with her bracelets

Anna is our youngest chick. You will find her sitting with her friend, Cindy Pawlyshn. She comes from a very creative family and shows her own talent in the pretty bracelets she makes. Shop her table early if you want the best selection...accessories are a girl's best friend!

Jeanee and her sewn creations

Last year Crafty Chicks was the first show Jeanee ever participated in and had "SO MUCH FUN". She has found her niche with aprons. Each apron will always be unique because she never uses the same fabric combination twice. Jeanee will have some new items this year and will be screenprinting some cool stuff. Dayle loves to make things. Crafting has been a lifelong passion. If it's crafty and Martha Stewart has blessed it crafty, then she probably does it. "Handmade by Sodapop, my company is a dream come true. I love making anything that is colorful, girlie, fashion forward but practical." Sodapop currently sells all kinds of handbags and necklaces.

For Crafty Chicks this year, Dayle will have some new items to sell. (It's a secret)

Julie's history on creating button rings goes back over 5 years...then for family, friends and gifts. "For the last couple years I've been hooked on vintage buttons...what history and beauty they hold! I recently made a ring and pendant for a woman using buttons from her husband's navy uniform. She wears her ring every day! That's so special."

Julie survived her first Crafty Chicks Show last year and has been busy with Girls Night Out ring parties ever since.

Megan Gray at '07 Crafty Chick Show and Sale

Megan has always had a love of fiber arts and fashion. She taught herself how to knit at an early age and began experimenting with felt a couple years ago. Her creations consist of felted ball necklaces and bracelets, scarves and vintage jewelry. This year, however, Megan is 'going green'. Her new designs are still organic but has focused on how to reuse vintage items in a totally new and creative way. She is known as Ecochic.

As a child, Jennifer learned to crochet from her mother and has been "hooked" ever since. Jennifer became an official chick last year where she sold baby onesie sets and coffee cup cozies. This year, she will be back with her popular cozies, but also has some surprises for your neck and hands!

Cherish Pageau

Cherish is the word. (We couldn't resist.) Lucky for us, Cherish has been a chick for five years. As you can see from her picture, she has a passion and talent for ceramics. You'll be hard pressed to make a selection from these beautifully handcrafted pieces. Come early for your best selection.

Madeline and Diane Tompkins

This mother and daughter dynamic duo have been chicks from day one in 1999. Creativity obviously runs in the family. Diane has a unique talent of combining colors and textures which are evident in her exquisite necklaces. Madeline's love of lettering inspires delightful creations every year. Their years in Crafty Chicks have created a following who are always anxious to see what their new endeavors will bring.
